Torah, Exodus 4:18 - 6:1
Moses went back to his father-in-law Jether and
said to him, “Let me go back to my kinsmen in Egypt and see how they are
faring.”
Moshe is now preparing to
follow through on the charge that Adonai gave him in the last Sidra. The
conclusion to the confrontation between Adonai and Pharaoh was already cast in
stone in Chapter 4 verse 22-23 “You shall say to Pharaoh: “Adonai says. “Isra’el
is my first-born son. I have told
you to let him go in order to worship me, but you have refused to let him go. Well, then, I will kill your firstborn
son!”” Adonai has already given Pharaoh a warning, and a chance to repent.
As Moshe is traveling to Mitzrayim, the Lord meets them one night, intending to
kill Moshe because he had neglected the mitzvoth to circumcise his son. Zipporah
quickly circumcised their son, and Adonai's anger was abated. Adonai told Aharon
to meet Moshe, and they met with a friendly greeting. Moshe explained their
task, and together they met with the elders of the people, who are overjoyed
that Adonai has heard their pleas and has come to deliver them.
In Chapter 5 we read the account of the first meeting between Moshe, Aharon and
Pharaoh, after which Pharaoh increases the oppression of the people, and the
people complain to Moshe and Aharon. As things seem to have gotten worse, with
no deliverance in sight, Moshe complains to God, and the reading concludes with
Chapter 6, verse 1 saying "Adonai said to Moses, "Now you will see what I am
going to do to Pharaoh. With a
mighty hand he will send them off; with force he will drive them from the
land!""
Qeriath, Isaiah 55:12 - 56:8
Yeshiyahu is prophesying of a time of
deliverance, when Adonai will lead His people from exile into a land of
blessing. The people are told to keep righteous by observing Shabbos, and
keeping their hands from evil. All those who obey this in faith will obtain
blessings from God. And Adonai promises that when He gathers His people, He will
bring others, those who are not part of Isra’el but have kept His commands.
These others will share the blessings along with Isra’el.
Da'ath, Romans 8:18-30
Rav Shaul has just told the Messianic
congregation in Rome that those who believe on Yeshua HaMashiach are children of
God, joint heirs. The current sufferings are not to be compared with the glory
that will be revealed in us as we are shown to be the sons of God. We are saved
by the grace of Adonai, which is the reason we have hope. Our calling follows
the same pattern as the calling of Moshe; Adonai chooses, or predestines, whom
He will; He calls whom He will; through Messiah He justifies those He calls; and
through that justification He gives glory to those who believe.
Igarath, 1 Peter 3:1-12
Kefa (Peter) has been addressing the Jews in the
Diaspora. He has been encouraging them to live
holy lives. In Chapter 3 Kefa describes how wives can impact their husbands by
living quite, gentle lives and submitting to their husbands. And he tells the husbands to treat their
wives with tenderness, respect and understanding, so their prayers will not be
hindered. All the people are told to have unity of purpose, treating each other
with compassion and love. Adonai is with those who are righteous, following His
commands, but is against those who do evil.
Conclusion
In Torah the people rejoice when they see their
deliverance coming, for Adonai heard their prayers. Qeriath shows a future time
of deliverance for Isra’el, and all those that obey Adonai and thus are
considered righteous. Da’ath tells us that those who believe on Yeshua will
obtain glory from Adonoi. And Igarath again tells us that Adonai will be with
the righteous, listening to their prayers.
The righteousness of God, obtained by following
His specific commands, leads to a relationship with Him, and ultimately to His
blessings. So let us obey Adonai and be called the righteous of God. It is in
the Name of Yeshua that we worship Him here.
